Lohri on 13th January in North, Makar Sankranti in Western parts also called Uttarayan in Gujarat on 14th January and Pongal on 15th January in South India in the States of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and Puducherry..
The festivals refer to a specific solar day in the Hindu calendar when the sun enters the zodiac sign of Capricorn or Makar which marks the end of winter months and the beginning of longer days. The festivals mark the end of the winter solstice and harvesting of the rabi crops.
